If you’re like most people, then you’ve probably been hanging lights outdoors and indoors around Christmas for as long as you can remember. These beautiful strings of lights are surely a symbol of winter, but do you have any idea how the tradition got started?
Well, we actually have to thank Edward H. Johnson, an associate of Thomas Edison, for it. He was the one who came up with the prototype back in 1882. He hand-wired his Christmas tree with 80 red, white, and blue bulbs and put it on show in his New York home. Up until then, people used to put candles in their Christmas trees to light them up.
We’ve come a long way since then, and today’s incredible, over-the-top holiday light displays prove it. And talking about marvelous displays, YouTuber Tom BetGeorge sure likes to go to extreme lengths to make sure his Christmas decorations are the talk of the whole neighborhood.
His home looks straight out of a Christmas movie, but the most impressive thing is that he took care of all the decoration process himself. In fact, the man said in an interview that he built almost everything from scratch using wood and acrylic.
