Bile bears, sometimes called battery bears, are bears kept in captivity to harvest their bile. The digestive fluid is used by some traditional Chinese medicine practitioners even though it doesn’t have any proven medical effect, and can be worth a lot of money to the right buyers. The conditions in which the bears are kept in these farms are considered inhumane. The bear in the video below was rescued after he spend years locked in a tiny cage in a bear bile farm. This video captures the bear’s reactions as he experiences his first day outside and his first day of freedom.
